Mathematics

Our mathematics curriculum is developed based on the Key Learning Area recommended by the Curriculum Development Council (Hong Kong). It does not only aim at providing students with basic mathematical knowledge and skills, but also emphasizes the process of learning in order to develop students’ abilities in inquiring, communicating, reasoning, conceptualizing and problem solving. The aims and objectives, the structure and content of our mathematics curriculum have been developed according to the following principles:

  1. Developing students’ learning attitudes and skills (such as being careful in calculating and self-checking, giving clear description and having an inquisitive mind).
  2. Relevance to students (so that the curriculum emphasizes on the linkage of topics in the curriculum and students’ experiences through activities and real life examples)
  3. Catering for students’ diversity (teachers will progressively arrange the topics using different approaches and select appropriate enrichment topics to meet the needs of students).

Our mathematics curriculum is divided into five learning dimensions, namely, Number, Shape and Space, Measures, Data Handling and Algebra. In designing the learning objectives of various learning dimensions, relevant inter-related topics are grouped into units which progress from easy and concrete to difficult and abstract according to students’ cognitive development. To broaden students’ view and arouse their interest, enrichment topics will also be included in our curriculum.
